Summer Is practically Here! Summer is almost here!

Summer Is practically Here! Summer is almost here! In only a few short weeks school that is high round the country is going on summer break. We receive numerous concerns from students in regards to what they should be doing over the summer. There truly is not one answer.

Having read 46,000 applications, we have seen a wide range of summer experiences that students have embarked on. We’ve look over everything from summer time programs at prestigious universities, to gaining work experience at their local mall, to climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro (literally). We admire students that pursue their passions.

Here is a list that is short of activities you could pursue:

  • Volunteer at a hospital, park, library, museum or aquarium
  • Become a Camp Counselor at a summer camp
  • Train to be always a lifeguard at your local pool, pond, or beach
  • Baby-sit your neighbor’s kid
  • Take a college-visit road journey
  • Serve up fro-yo at your local frozen yogurt shop (get some good work experience)
  • Sign up for a mission or solution trip in the usa or abroad
  • Tutor younger students in your favorite topic
  • Have a class at your local community college or college

Anything you end up achieving this summer, be sure to select a summer time task centered on what you love doing and not based on just how you think it shall look on your college applications.

Transfer Decisions

In about a week we are going to be transfer that is contacting regarding their application to USC. A handful of students have heard of their admission at this point. Nonetheless, nearly all transfer applicants will receive a choice or a demand for lots more home elevators or by June 1st.

If a request is received by you to learn more:

Generally, the excess information we request is your spring transcript with your final grades for the academic 12 months. This demand is not an indicator that the student is more apt to be admitted or not; rather it provides us by having a more complete history that is academic. Even as we get the information that is additional you ought to hear of a decision within 2 to 4 weeks.

If a letter is received by you of admission:

If you are admitted towards the fall term, you will have two weeks to submit your dedication deposit. During that two week period you need to receive a economic aid prize (if you applied). You shall also wish to register for orientation as soon as feasible. Finally, if you are interested in university housing you ought to complete your housing application promptly, as space is limited for transferring students.

Professional Development

Things have started to relax around the workplace now that all freshman decisions are made. We’re still taking care of reviewing transfer files, but our staff recently took a quick trip to Reno, NV to attend a expert conference.

While here, we attended sessions about various admission topics and best techniques, such as just how to provide a successful school that is high, what kinds of technology might be beneficial in the recruitment process, and exactly how to read university essays while knowing of our own private biases (positive shmoop essay writting or negative). The conference also provided us a chance to get in touch with our peers from various parts of the country, including many of your high school counselors. It was a opportunity that is great share our own knowledge and expertise and learn from one another. Perhaps the most seasoned admission counselors on our staff learned one thing new at the conference!

Summer is our possibility to rest, review what we’ve learned over the past year, and prepare for the coming year. We hope you can perform the same throughout your summer break!

Summer in the City

It is officially summer in Southern California! Campus is just a bit quieter, the temperatures are becoming warmer, and most importantly, the pace in our office has slowed down. We’re also advantage that is taking of downtime to explore Los Angeles and all which our town has to provide our pupils.

Like in past summers, we’re utilising the Summer Restaurant Series, planned by some of our very own peers, to explore the local cuisine. Simply month that is last we ventured to 23rd St. Café in USC’s backyard. This unique restaurant offers American, Indian, and Mexican food, as well as some fusion dishes. The Chicken Tikka Masala quesadilla was quite popular in our team! For the food that is second, our restaurant series took us to Umamicatessen. According to the website, this location is ‘inspired by worldwide street bazaars and the classic American delicatessen’ while offering 5 different kitchen areas serving up diverse kinds of food within a dining hall situated inside the Orpheum Theatre. A number of our dishes that are favorite this outing were the truffle fries, made-to-order donuts, and various forms of Umami’s specialty: burgers.

Besides eating our way through some of Los Angeles’s notable restaurants, we are going to spend time during July and August going to events that are cultural checking away historic spots around the city. Some activities we are going to experience include a tour that is guided of Disney Concert Hall and Music Center, enjoying the Downtown LA Art Walk, and hopping regarding the newly opened Expo line to just take the train to the Culver City Farmers Market.

What restaurants, tasks, and outings do you enjoy around Los Angeles? Tell us within the opinions section—maybe we are able to add your suggestion to our list this summer!
